EAT SOUTH AFRICAN
by Shirley Friedman

Have you every thought about how you'd feel to go without
Tasty, tempting types of food?
Since I came to Africa, tho' I've travelled near and far,
Never had it quite so good.
Paw-paws, ripe and yellow from the sun.
Mangos, sweet, delicious, everyone.
Guava, grenadilla. I'm a lucky fella.
Eat South African and you'll have fun.
Have you tasted stywe pap? Lekker kos.
And at every braaivleis you get boerewors.
Litches, sweet and white, are my heart's delight.
Eat South African, I'm telling you boss.

Bobotie or sosaties, each a tasty dish.
You say you've never eaten them?
Ach man, sis!

Mealies, piping hot with butter dripping thru.
Koeksusters and melktert, a treat for you.
Have a bite of biltong, but be sure your teeth are strong.
Eat South African, you'll love it too.

Down there in Natal it's banana time.
Eat yourself a bunch in the warm sunshine.
Have some spunspek while you can.
Ja, it's sweet and juicy, man.
Eat South African, and you'll feel fine.

Go to Zebedelia, watch the orange grow.
Peel yourself a naartjie, don't be slow.
Have an avocado too.
Don't you know its good for you.
Eat South African. You can't say no.

Butternut and gemsquash.
Sweet potatoes too
And if you're careful of the bones
There's snoek for you.

When you get to Cape Town
Go down to the Bay.
Catch yourself a crayfish right away.
Build a fire on the beach.
Cook as much as you can eat.
Eat South African, and shout hooray!
